Man found pinned to ground under large rolling gate

A man has been killed by a falling gate at Navan Retail Park this morning.

The incident happened some time before 6.20am at the back of the retail centre on the outskirts of the Co Meath town.

Emergency services and gardai rushed to the scene when the man was found pinned to the ground under the large rolling gate which appeared to have fallen off its guide track and toppled over.

The gate is at the delivery entrance to the popular retail park, and off the Townparks Road.

The victim is a man in his 40's who lived in Navan and may have been making a delivery or involved in security monitoring at the site.

Local fire brigade units had to lift the heavy gate off the man’s body so he could be removed from underneath it.

This morning the scene was sealed off by Gardai pending an inspection by the Health and Safety Authority.

The collapsed gate was still lying on the ground and the entrance to the delivery area was put out of commission until the gate can be inspected and declared safe.
